Institute of International Finance, Inc to Open Middle East and Africa Regional Office in Dubai, Appoints Wolfgang Engel as Chief Representative

The Institute of International Finance announced that it will soon open an office in Dubai in recognition of the region s growing stature in the global financial system and to better serve its members.
In addition, it announced that Wolfgang Engel will become IIF's Chief Representative for the office. Engel currently serves as Director of Global Membership for IIF in Washington. In his new role, Engel will lead efforts to strengthen relationships with members in the region, to identify and address their most important issues from their perspective, and to increase engagement with the official sector. Before joining IIF, Engel was a member of the Management Committee at Société Générale in charge of the Financial Institutions Group Germany and Austria.
The Institute of International Finance Promotes Dr. Bejoy Das Gupta to Chief Economist for Asia

The Institute of International Finance announced that Dr. Bejoy Das Gupta has been promoted to Chief Economist for Asia. In that role, Das Gupta will be responsible for managing the IIF's economic analysis for the region. In addition to Das Gupta's promotion, IIF also plans on hiring a Director for Asia/Pacific who will manage all IIF activities in the region. Das Gupta has been with IIF for over twenty years focusing on analysis of emerging markets in Asia, including economic policies, capital flows, financial markets and the banking sector. Das Gupta previously served as Deputy Director of Asia/Pacific. In that capacity, Das Gupta directed country missions and was responsible for developing and managing key contacts with senior officials and bankers in the region. He also prepared regional reports and contributions to IIF's Capital Flows Report and Global Economic Monitor. Das Gupta will also continue to contribute to IIF's Emerging Market Advisory Council. EMAC works directly with IIF's Board of Directors to integrate more effectively Emerging Market members into IIF's programs and to help ensure their views are fully considered in the course of IIF's work. In addition to his responsibilities at IIF, Das Gupta serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University's Washington Program.
