Penguin Computing Announces Imminent Availability of the New Arctica 4806xp
Aug 11 14
Penguin Computing announced imminent availability of the new Arctica 4806xp open network switch based on the Broadcom StrataXGS Trident II chipset. Penguin Arctica 4806xp is the first 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet Top-of-Rack (ToR) open switch using an x86 control processor, which provides a flexible platform for Software Defined Networking and customer defined applications. A combination of 10 Gigabit host links and 40 Gigabit uplinks in Arctica 4806xp supports cost-efficient intra-rack connectivity using industry standard Twinax cables, while offering multiple 40 Gigabit copper and optical links options for distribution layer connectivity. The Arctica 4806xp data plane features native, line rate capable VXLAN support, making the platform ideally suited for modern scale-out architectures and virtualized multi-tenant environments found in service provider data centers. Penguin Computing is focused on testing, integrating and supporting Linux-based compute, storage and networking in the HPC clusters and Internet datacenters. The Arctica line of switches is offered in Penguin's rack level solutions and also as standalone products. The new Arctica 4806xp switch will be available in late third calendar quarter of 2014.
Penguin Computing Introduces ICEBREAKER HPC
May 7 14
Penguin Computing announced ICEBREAKER HPC, a family of highly scalable, high performance file-system solutions based on EMC VNX and EMC Isilon storage. Currently available with either Lustre or NFS file-systems, the Icebreaker HPC family integrates EMC VNX® and EMC Isilon® platforms with Penguins standard rack infrastructure in a form factor that allows the easy addition of other HPC solutions. This solution is highly scalable, and leveraging the combination of many 42U racks in concert, each of which can hold as many as 600 disk drives and deliver up to 2.5 PBytes of usable storage, is able to satisfy the capacity needs of the most demanding HPC applications. By using Penguin's networking/interconnect solutions together with EMC's highly reliable storage platforms in a high-availability, fault-tolerant architecture, Penguin is able to deliver non-stop file-system access with aggregate bandwidth in excess of hundreds of gigabytes per second. The result is a highly effective, high-capacity storage solution that can deliver enterprise grade quality of service with the data profile and workflow associated with HPC deployments.
Penguin Computing Introduces the Relion 2808GT with Rack DCLC Solution by CoolIT
Mar 25 14
Penguin Computing introduced the Relion 2808GT with Rack DCLC(TM) Solution by CoolIT at the NVIDIA GTC Conference in San Jose, California. Complementing the Relion 2808GT's high density 8 NVIDIA Tesla K40m boards in a 2U form factor, Penguin Computing's partnership with CoolIT addresses power and cooling concerns when using high-density configurations. The Relion 2808GT with CoolIT's Rack DCLC(TM) Solution provides direct-to-chip liquid cooling to both of the Intel Xeon Processors along with eight NVIDIA K40 GPUs. This translates into CoolIT's Rack DCLC(TM) Solution addressing 86% of total server heat while the facility air cooling requirement is substantially reduced to 14%. By reducing the air cooling requirement, an increased number of Relion 2808GT servers per rack is possible as well as decreasing the data center rack footprint. This will deliver up to 24% OPEX savings per year.
