Penguin Computing Releases Arctica 3200xl Open Switches based on Broadcom Trident II Chipset

Penguin Computing announced future availability of the new Arctica 3200xl open network switch based on the Broadcom StrataXGS(R) Trident II hipset. Introduction of Arctica 3200xl adds 32-port 40 Gigabit Ethernet capability to the Arctica family. Arctica 3200xl also enables up to 96 servers and storage systems to be connected over 10 Gigabit Ethernet to a single Top-of-Rack switch while supporting 40 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks for aggregation. With existing Arctica 4804i, 4804x and new 3200xl models Penguin has a full suite of open switches for High Performance Computing and Internet Data Center applications. 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40GigE) ports available in Arctica 3200xl alleviate I/O bottlenecks in congested storage servers. Used as Inter-Switch Links (ISLs), 40GigE connections aggregate traffic from multiple 10/40GigE Top-of-Rack switches. Arctica 3200xl also offers new high port count 10 Gigabit Ethernet options to support ultra high density rack form factors, such as Penguin OpenHPC(TM). Multiple Arctica 3200xl and 4804x units can be used to span large non-blocking fabric topologies (Clos networks) to support High Performance Computing clusters. For data center and virtualization workloads, Arctica 3200xl provides wire speed VXLAN functionality to address the management and security concerns in large multi-tenant cloud deployments. Penguin Computing is focused on testing, integrating and supporting Linux in the HPC clusters and Internet datacenters. The Arctica line of switches is offered in Penguin's rack level solutions and also as standalone products. The new Arctica 3200xl switch will be available for sampling in the fourth calendar quarter of 2013 and shipping in first calendar quarter 2014. Penguin Computing Updates Densest GPU Compute Solution with NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPU Accelerators

Penguin Computing announced that it will offer NVIDIA(R) Tesla(R) K40 GPU accelerators across its range of GPU computing platforms, including its Relion 2808GT servers. The Relion 2808GT was designed to deliver maximum compute power with a minimal datacenter footprint and maximum efficiency. The system supports eight GPU accelerators or coprocessors in two rack units and provides a higher compute density than any other server on the market. Configured with NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPU accelerators, a single Relion 2808GT can achieve over 33TFLOPs of peak performance. The NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPU accelerator is the first and highest-performance accelerator optimized for big data analytics and large-scale scientific workloads. It delivers double the memory and up to 40% higher performance than its predecessor, the NVIDIA Tesla K20X GPU accelerator, and 10 times higher performance than today's CPU. It features intelligent NVIDIA GPU Boost technology, which converts power headroom into a user-controlled performance boost, enabling users to unlock the untapped performance of a broad range of applications. The Tesla K40 GPU accelerator is based on the NVIDIA Kepler(TM) GPU computing architecture and powered by NVIDIA CUDA(R), the world's most pervasive parallel computing model. The Relion 2808GT is the ideal platform for running scientific and engineering applications that support GPUs and is the density server that uses the NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPU accelerator at launch. The Relion 2808 GT is available in a 2U rack-mount, supporting eight full width GPUs.
Penguin Computing Announces Densest X86 Supercomputers That Leverage OCP Designs

Penguin Computing announced Tundra Open HPC(TM). This clustered architecture can support up to 108 high performance compute servers in a single rack with improved serviceability and investment protection. Penguin's Tundra Open HPC architecture is based on the Open Compute Project's Open Rack form factor that re-engineers the conventional data center rack for maximum power efficiency, serviceability and investment protection. Penguin Computing's Tundra Open Rack(TM) provides 36 Open Units (OUs) of space for compute equipment and dedicates additional space for shared power infrastructure and networking components. Using the new Penguin designed compute module, three nodes can be mounted in each Open Unit, enabling deployments with up to 108 nodes within the dimensions of a traditional 42U rack. Using Intel E5-2600 V2 processors, each rack can provide over 40TFLOPS and nearly 50TB of RAM within the dimensions of a traditional 19" 42U rack. Penguin offers Open Compute Ready(TM) compute, storage and interconnect solutions both for Open Rack and conventional 19" EIA racks. Tundra Open HPC designs will be contributed to the Open Compute Foundation, expanding Penguin Computing's traditional high performance computing solutions and establishing a new architecture for current and future datacenter solutions.
