After 20 months of litigation, Intellectual Ventures, LLC has settled lawsuits playing out in three courts over alleged patent infringement by SK Hynix Inc. and Elpida Memory Inc. These lawsuits, filed back in December 2010, were some of the first patent infringement claims the company filed. The company has been called a "patent troll," also known as a nonpracticing entity, because the company holds patents but does not produce products with that patented technology. The first case was filed in Delaware because the company and many other companies involved are incorporated there.
