Nelson Levine Deluca & Horst Llc announced that Lawrence H. Mirel will join the firm's Washington, DC office as a partner in the Insurance Regulation Practice on February 1, 2013, and Marc S. Voses has joined the firm's New York office as a partner in the Insurance Coverage Practice. Mr. Mirel has more than 25 years of insurance-related experience and served for more than six years as the Commissioner of Insurance, Securities and Banking for the District of Columbia. He is an authority on prevalent insurance policy issues, including the impact on the industry of federal legislation -- the Class Action Reform Act, Dodd-Frank Act and Affordable Care Act -- and on state regulatory matters such as principle-based reserving, reinsurance collateral reform and the creation of health insurance exchanges. Prior to joining Nelson Levine, Mr. Mirel served as a partner and co-chair of the Insurance Regulation and Legislation Group at Wiley Rein LLP. Mr. Mirel will be based in Nelson Levine's Washington, DC office led by Susan T. Stead, chair of the firm's Insurance Regulation Practice and a former regulator. Focused on insurance regulatory reform with a special emphasis on federal legislation affecting insurers, Ms. Stead will move the home base of her national regulatory practice to the firm's DC office while continuing to lead Nelson Levine's Ohio operations. Mr. Voses has devoted his entire legal career to advising insurers and reinsurers in large exposure, complex claims and coverage matters arising from various product lines, including Directors & Officers, Financial Lines, and Errors & Omissions. He also advises insurers on extra contractual issues and represents insurers in claims alleging bad faith as well as in matters arising out of insurers' commercial operations. Prior to joining Nelson Levine, he was a partner in the New York office of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP.

Nelson Levine Deluca & Horst Llc announced the opening of a Greensboro, N.C. office, expanding the insurance industry law firm's footprint into the Southeast region.
The office will be led by David L. Brown, a well-known insurance coverage litigator, who joins Nelson Levine from Greensboro firm Pinto Coates Kyre & Brown PLLC, along with three of his colleagues. Other partners joining the firm include Martha P. Brown, John I. Malone, Jr. and Brady A. Yntema. The office will open effective November 1, 2012. Mr. Brown focuses on complex insurance coverage disputes and bad faith claims throughout North Carolina and the southeastern U.S., particularly emerging coverage issues related to DNA identification as well as matters involving allocation, property coverage, and directors and officers liability. He also represents insurers in reinsurance disputes. Mr. Brown has extensive experience in the defense of liability matters with a special emphasis on construction defect.

Nelson Levine Deluca & Horst Llc announced that Stanley Jablonowski, an insurance brokerage executive who successfully led five major corporate integrations over a three-decade career in the industry, has joined the firm as its new Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Jablonowski, who resides in the firm's New York office, brings extensive management experience and a detailed understanding of the insurance industry's legal needs to his newly created role. At the firm, Mr. Jablonowski will work directly with leaders of its seven practice groups (regulation, reinsurance, institutional consulting and litigation, subrogation, international markets, insurance coverage, and complex liability), communicating Nelson Levine's strength in established services and emerging issues such as increased federal influence over the insurance industry, cyber liability, and nanotechnology risk governance.
