Finebaum Resolves Lawsuit Against Citadel Broadcasting Corporation

In a joint statement July 16, Finebaum, his employer of seven years, Citadel Broadcasting Corp., and former WJOX General Manager Bill Thomas announced they had resolved their long-standing legal dispute. Details of the settlement agreement, which came 47 days after the parties' last court appearance, were not disclosed. But the parties said Finebaum will continue his relationship with Citadel pursuant to the terms of his current employment agreement. That agreement, which Finebaum renewed in 2010, requires the sports talk host to stay with Citadel through Jan. 21, 2013. The settlement resolves the lawsuit Finebaum filed against Citadel and Thomas in July that alleged contract violations, coercion and unlawful suppression of his pay. It also resolves Citadel's countersuit, which alleged Finebaum had violated the contract by negotiating with other stations and revealing confidential information. But it leaves unanswered questions about the popular host's future with WJOX as it remains unclear whether he'll renew his contract with Citadel in January. According to court allegations by Citadel in the now-settled dispute, since May 2009, Finebaum has also been courted by Texas-based Clear Channel Communications Inc. and San Antonio-based Apex Broadcasting Inc.
