MOCA To Remain Independent

Museum of Contemporary Art, Inc. (MOCA) stated that it will remain independent. MOCA stated: "The board is in agreement that the best future for MOCA would be as an independent institution. The board understands that this will require a significant increase in MOCA's endowment to ensure its strong financial standing." On March 7, 2013 it was reported that Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) had proposed a merger of MOCA and LACMA, after MOCA initially broached the subject. LACMA had confirmed that MOCA had approached it regarding merger discussion, and had responded with an offer. University of Southern California (USC) was also touted as an institution with which MOCA might merge. MOCA stated that it was "exploring all strategic options, to honor the best interest of the institution and the artistic community we serve."

BIOBASE Corporation announced a new agreement with the University of Southern California and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The agreement covers the exclusive worldwide marketing and distribution of the ANNOVAR tool to commercial users. ANNOVAR enables the annotation of genomic variants on a variety of species including human. It is an efficient software tool for rapidly screening and annotating genetic variants detected from next-generation sequencing results on a genome-wide level. ANNOVAR will be distributed stand alone, and as a complement to Genome Trax(TM), a database of diseases, phenotypes and functional effects of genomic variants assembled from published results by qualified experts.
