Fincantieri S.p.A. (BIT:FCT) is speeding up talks to buy STX France SA from STX Europe ASA, Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Tuesday, without citing sources. STX France needs the go-ahead of the French state for the sale. Fincantieri declined to comment on the report.

Fincantieri announced earnings results for the nine months 2014. For the nine months, revenues increased to EUR 2.935 billion, mostly due to international deliveries of cruise ships, which more than offset the lower sales in the navy segment as the group awaits the launch of new military programmes. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) inched down to EUR 207 million from EUR 208 million a year ago. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) dropped to EUR 132 million from EUR 141 million a year ago. Net profit of EUR 43 million for the nine months to September, down from EUR 53 million for the same period last year.
