A&E Television Networks Inc. has hired noted research executive David Marans. Mr. Marans, previously with ad agency J. Walter Thompson, media agency Mindshare and IAG Research, has been named senior VP of research and insights at AETN. He will oversee programming and ad sales research for the company's networks, including A&E, History, Biography, History International and Crime & Investigation Network. Mr. Marans will report to Mel Berning, executive VP for ad sales at AETN.
Dish Network Corp. along with A&E Network, emerged as the first pay-TV provider to offer a television series in 1080p resolution quality comparable to Blu-Ray disc(TM). A&e Network's new drama series The Beast is now available to DISH Network subscribers through its Internet Protocol Video On Demand (IP-VOD) platform in 1080p the day after a new episode premieres. DISH Network(R) subscribers with an MPEG-4 HD DVR receiver, a high definition television that is 1080p compatible, and a broadband connection will be able to access, download and watch The Beast. To access the DISH Network's 1080p IP-VOD content, customers with an MPEG-4 HD DVR receiver need to select the 'DVR' button on their DISH Network remote control and chose the DishONLINE feature. They can also access the IP-VOD service by selecting 'Menu' on their remote, followed by DISH On Demand and DishONLINE. Subscribers will see a variety of content and must select movies with 1080p after the titles in order to get the comparable to Blu-Ray disc(TM) quality films.
It is understood that Cable operators and Multi-System Operators (MSOs) have sought clarifications from both the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) and the broadcast regulator on continued carriage of the ‘Fox History & Entertainment’ channel on the cable platform as it does not figure in the list of channels permitted by the government to downlink in India. Also, Sources in the cable industry say that the original ‘The History’ channel promoted by A&E Television Networks, Inc. (AETN) is looking for a partner in India to ‘restart’ its operations.
