A+E Networks Expands History Footprint in Baltics

A+E Networks announced the expansion of History in Europe with the launch of the channel on Viasat in the Baltics. Following the 1 July launch, History will be available in Viasat's Gold and Silver packages on the DTH platform in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Viewers will be able to watch the channel's top-rating shows such as Pawn Stars and Counting Cars as well as upcoming series including Appalachian Outlaws.

Nicklodeon UK vice president and commercial director Kiaran Saunders has joined A+E Networks VP of EMEA. Saunders has joined the company in a senior strategic role within its own EMEA operations responsible for A+E Networks' growth strategy, branded channels and digital distribution across the region. He will take charge from Liz Higgins, who has joined News UK as commercial development director, and report to MD Dean Possenniskie. Meanwhile, Jon Wildman has been hired in the newly created role of VP ad sales for EMEA. The announcement was made by A+E Networks EMEA MD Possenniskie to whom both will report. At Nickelodeon, Saunders was responsible for managing distribution activity, advertising sales, and business development. Saunders assumes his new role from September 2014.
NBCUniversal Planning To Sell A&E Stake To Walt Disney And Hearst

Comcast Corporation’s (NasdaqGS:CMCS.A) NBCUniversal Media, LLC is planning to sell 15.8% stake in A&E Television Networks, LLC to the other partners in the joint venture, The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) and Hearst Communications, Inc. According to the news report, the deal could be worth about $2 billion. Comcast said recently that it had exercised an option requiring Disney and Hearst to buy back ‘a substantial portion’ of its ownership in A&E. Each company owns about another 42% A&E. Comcast said that it expects the transaction to close in the second half of 2014. The report mentioned that Comcast spokesman, Charlie Douglas and Hearst spokesman Paul Luthringer declined to comment. A Disney representative wasn't immediately available for comment. According to Citi analyst, Jason NBCUniversal's stake could be worth about $2 billion and could be used to reduce the company's debt.
