FLEXcon Company, Inc. Key Developments

Flexcon Bridges Gap Between Paper and Films with Expansion of THERMLfilm NEXgen Product Line

FLEXcon announced the expansion of the THERMLfilm NEXgen product line, offering new topcoated polypropylene films that provide printing converters with the perfect balance of performance and price. These new thermal transfer printable polypropylene films, along with certain other THERMLfilm NEXgen products, utilize an aqueous acrylic adhesive coated on a 50# kraft liner manufactured from up to 30% post-consumer waste. THERMLfilm NEXgen polypropylenes are ideal for applications that require durable labeling beyond the performance of traditional thermal transfer printable papers at a competitive price point. These applications include kanban systems, inventory tracking, recyclable shrink wrap, electronics and appliances, as well as labeling in the transportation markets. UL/cUL-recognized THERMLfilm NEXgen polypropylenes are available in 2 mil clear and 2.3 mil white. The topcoat optimizes printability with thermal transfer resin and wax/resin ribbons, UV inkjet, flexographic, rotary screen, rotary letterpress and hot stamping. THERMLfilm NEXgen polypropylene products are competitively priced to other UL-recognized polypropylene constructions on the market.

Whitlam Label Company Partners with FLEXcon to Create Durable Protective Barrier for Industrial Parts

FLEXcon announced it is working with Whitlam Label Company to create a durable protective barrier for industrial parts. Together, the companies created an innovative solution to meet the needs of a key parts supplier that requires a film and adhesive combination that is strong enough to withstand the manufacturing process, yet can be easily removed once the protective barrier has served its purpose. The goal was to create a product that could prevent proprietary solvent chemicals from penetrating into the component part which would be exposed to strong solvent chemicals and extreme heat (150 degrees Celsius) for an extended period of time during the manufacturing process. Any exposure to the chemicals would damage a magnetic assembly within the component. The challenge was that the protective barrier had to bond strongly enough to prevent any chemical penetration -- but then also still be removable. In being truly removable, this means not leaving any adhesive residue on the final assembly.

FLEXcon Introduces New Prime Label Substrates with V-01 Adhesive for Better Performance

FLEXcon announced the addition of products for prime labeling applications using the company's new, higher-shear, permanent acrylic adhesive. Available as part of the optiFLEX, optiFLEX EZ, optiFLEX CONCEAL, optiFLEX CONFORMmax, THINflex and DigiPRO PRIME product lines in addition to the original sureFLEX line, FLEXcon's new generation V-01 adhesive offers problem-free performance by running without buildup on converting or dispensing equipment. It provides excellent adhesion to a variety of container types, including low-surface energy HDPE. It also offers open time for clean removability of misapplied labels, allowing the container to be salvaged and re-labeled. V-01 resists moisture and exposure to product contents and passes soapy squeeze testing, making it ideal for the health and beauty, food and beverage and household chemical markets. It is compliant with FDA 175.105 for indirect food contact. FLEXcon's V-01 adhesive is available on a wide range of films for use on a variety of container types including rigid, semi-squeeze and full-squeeze containers. In addition, products are available for a variety of print technologies, including HP Indigo, UV, solvent, emulsion and hot stamp, to name a few. Label substrates with V-01 are readily available, many in Quick-Ship and/or pre-slit inventory for fast delivery.
