Hearst Newspapers announced that Kurt M. Vantosky has been named senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Times Union in Albany, N.Y. Vantosky joins Hearst from Advance/Newhouse Communications where he was vice president of advertising for Alabama’s Birmingham News, since August 2009. In this role he worked with other key executives to develop and implement a progressive newspaper audience marketing campaign. He also transformed the sales staff from a traditionally print “service” team to a highly motivated multimedia sales team. He was previously vice president of advertising for the News Tribune/The Olympian in Tacoma, Wash., from July 2005 to August 2009.
