Walgreens to Close 20 Kerr Drug Pharmacies

Walgreen Co. completed its acquisition of Kerr Drug on Friday and will close 20 of the 76 stores it acquired. The stores to close are mostly outside the Triangle area, with the closest being one in Zebulon and one in Mebane. The Triad area seems to have received a higher concentration of the closings. Of the 20 that are closing, 16 stores will have their prescription files transferred to nearby Walgreens pharmacies. Customers will not need to provide any additional information to fill an existing prescription at Walgreens because the new pharmacy will already have the details on file. Walgreen Co. had already announced 84 layoffs that will happen in 2014.

Nexafed, is a 30 mg immediate-release pseudoephedrine product that combines effective nasal-congestion relief with a unique technology that disrupts the conversion of pseudoephedrine into the dangerous drug, methamphetamine (meth). Meth production and abuse is a growing problem in communities nationwide.
