ZMD AG Launches ZSSC3218

ZMD AG announced the launch of the ZSSC3218, a 18-bit sensor signal conditioning IC (SSC) with an integrated 24-bit digital signal processor (DSP) for linearization and calibration functions. As a global supplier of analog and mixed signal solutions for automotive, industrial, medical, information technology and consumer applications, the company has developed the ZSSC3218 to expand its Sensor Signal Conditioner ICs Family for high-end sensor modules. Optimized for high-resolution industrial, consumer and medical applications, this sensor interface IC combines a 24-bit DSP, high accuracy amplification and 18-bit precision analog-to-digital conversion with special features for battery-driven low-power devices, including 1mA typical overall current consumption, ultra-low 20nA typical sleep mode current and a 1.68 to 3.6 V power supply range. It features an intelligent power-save scheme to ensure lowest overall current consumption and internal filter options for low-noise output signals as well as intelligent alarm and interrupt features. The internal supply regulator with an excellent power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) eliminates the need for an external buffer capacitor. This makes it attractive for applications in harsh environments. Digital compensation of signal offset, sensitivity, temperature and non-linearity is accomplished via an internal correction algorithm with coefficients stored on-chip in a highly reliable, nonvolatile, multiple-time programmable memory. Programming is simple via the ZSSC3218's serial interface with the PC-controlled calibration software provided in ZMDI's Development Kit. The measured and corrected bridge values are provided at the digital output pins as I C or SPI. The ZSSC3218 can also provide a corrected temperature output measured with an internal sensor. With an almost noise-free 18-bit output signal, the ZSSC3218 allows designs for high-precision measurement systems, including barometric altitude measurement for portable navigation or emergency call systems, altitude measurement for car navigation, pressure measurements inside hard disks and weather forecasting equipment. The device can also adopt thermopile sensors to enable contactless temperature measurements of objects or human body temperature. Mobile products, such as phones or tablet computers, can greatly benefit from the ZSSC3218's precision. Features of the ZSSC3218: Quadratic form factor, optimized for stacked die assembly. Wide operating temperature range:-40degC to 85degC. Accuracy better than +/-0.10% full-scale output. Broad power supply range: 1.68 to 3.6 V. Low overall current consumption: 1mA typical. Power supply rejection ratio of up to 90dB at 2V. Availability and Pricing: The ZSSC3218 is in full production and is available as die for wafer bonding. Die, samples and wafers are available from ZMDI. For 50,000 pieces, the ZSSC3218 is priced at EUR 0.89 per unit or USD 1.20 per unit.

ZMD AG Announces ZSSC1750 and ZSSC1751

ZMD AG announced the ZSSC1750 and ZSSC1751, two fully automotive-qualified, high-precision data-acquisition system basis chips (SBCs). As a global supplier of analog and mixed-signal solutions for automotive, industrial, medical, information technology and consumer applications, ZMDI introduces these new ICs to extend its battery sensing and battery management product family. Both the ZSSC1750 and ZSSC1751 include two high-precision, high-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) for simultaneous measurement of battery voltage and current as well as internal and external temperatures. In addition, they provide several power-saving operating modes, including an autonomous periodic wake-up from sleep mode that can run entirely self-contained. Once a fault condition, such as exceeding a predefined current, voltage or temperature threshold occurs, these SBCs will automatically wake up and alert a higher-level controller. Both SBCs are controlled via an SPI interface. The ZSSC1750 provides an additional communication option using a physical LIN interface. The two synchronous, high-resolution ADCs combined with a wide-range programmable gain amplifier allow complex battery management tasks at currents ranging from milliamperes to kiloamperes. A standard SPI interface makes these products compatible with microcontrollers of any size and type, giving customers the best options for selecting the most economical solutions for their requirements. ZSSC1750 and ZSSC1751 hold features like Integrated, precision measurement solution for accurate prediction of battery state of health (SOH), state of charge (SOC) or state of function (SOF). Two high-precision 24-bit sigma-delta ADCs; 18-bit with no missing codes. -- Voltage channel input measurement range from 3.6V to 28.8V with an accuracy of +/-60ppm of full-scale. 16-bit internal and external temperature measurement. Both ZSSC1750 and ZSSC1751 are in full production. Parts and evaluation kits are available from ZMDI. For 1,000 pieces, the ZSSC1750 is priced at EUR 4.05 or USD 5.67 per unit and the ZSSC1751 is priced at EUR 3.91 or USD 5.47 per unit.

ZMD AG announced the ZSSC416x, the first in ZMDI's series of next generation of sensor signal conditioners. As a global supplier of analog and mixed-signal solutions for automotive, industrial, medical, information technology and consumer applications, ZMDI is pleased to introduce a sensor signal conditioning family capable of measuring single, dual or differential bridge inputs and internal or external temperature sensors. With a wide analog pre-amplification range, the ZSSC416x family is capable of highly accurate amplification and sensor-specific correction for most resistive bridge sensors as well as thermocouple readings. Measured values are provided via the digital SENT 3.0 output or I(2) C(TM) (trademark of NXP). The ZSSC416x is the first series of products from ZMDI's Next Generation Sensor Signal Conditioner Family designed for ease of integration into customers' sensor platforms without sacrificing the performance and flexibility needed for the lowest possible system costs. In addition to the higher proven performance needed for future products, ZMDI's Next Generation Sensor Signal Conditioner Family ICs offer customers ease of use with a wide range of predefined signal processing configurations and flexible input pin selection for quick integration in a wide variety of applications. It is Full SENT Rev 3.0 compliance, two full bridge sensor inputs; configurable for single, dual or differential measurements, internal and external temperature sensing, supply voltage range: 4.75V to 5.25V, overvoltage protection to +/- 18V, ADC resolution: 12 to 18 bit, output resolution: 12 bit via SENT and up to 16 bit for I2C(TM), designed for ASIL B requirements in safety-relevant applications, temperature range: -40degC to 150degC, flexibility for end applications (e.g., additional NTC linearization, algorithms for HTS sensors, calculation of mass flow) and standardized pin layout for family ICs facilitates platform designs. With built-in overvoltage and reverse polarity protection, excellent electromagnetic compatibility and built-in diagnostics features, the ZSSC416x family is optimized for safety critical applications and harsh environments.
