Indian Government Plans Disinvestment Of NHPC, Power Grid, BHEL, CIL And IOC

The Indian government is planning to privatize Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (BSE:532898), Coal India Limited (BSE:533278) ('CIL), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BSE:500103) ('BHEL'), NHPC Ltd. (BSE:533098) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (BSE:530965). Prime Minister Manmohan Singh decided to step in and directed all the administrative ministries to work out viable plans for facilitating stake sale in CIL and BHEL - two big ticket disinvestment targets for the remaining part of FY14. The Prime Minister held a meeting of key ministers including Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and Mines Minister Dinsha Patel - with the aim of discussing the way forward on achieving disinvestment targets. Achieving the disinvestment target is imperative for the Government to restrict its fiscal deficit for this financial year at the budgeted 4.8% of gross domestic product.

Indian Consortium Reportedly Buying Yamal

An Indian consortium including ONGC Videsh Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (BSE:530965), Petronet LNG Ltd. (BSE:532522), Mitsui & Co. Ltd. (TSE:8031), Mitsubishi Corporation (TSE:8058) have shown the interest to buy 10% stake in Yamal, Indian public Sector News reported. As Yamal is looking for an overseas partner to progress its project and share the cost. OAO Novatek (MICEX:NVTK) holds 60%, China National Petroleum Corporation holds 20% and Total SA (ENXTPA:FP) holds 20% in Yamal project. According to a source, ONGC Videsh may look for remaining 9% in Yamal LNG, but Japanese companies have not given any confirmation about further purchase.
