Optus Launches 4G Service in Darwin City

Optus has launched its 4G service in Darwin city. The launch follows the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) granting Optus an early access commercial licence for 4G 700MHz spectrum. This commercial pilot kicks-off the expansion of Optus' national 4G network. Optus customers with compatible devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8) will be able to access the new 4G network in select areas of Darwin's CBD. Optus is also trialing 4G using its 2,100 MHz spectrum in this area.
Optus Launches 4G 700MHz Network in Darwin and Perth CBDs

Optus has launched its commercial 4G 700MHz network in Darwin and Perth CBDs. Optus planed to expand its 4G network coverage to 90% of Australia's population by March 2015. Optus customers with compatible devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8) will be able to access the new 4G network in select areas, before it becomes more widely available from January 2015. This means Optus customers with compatible devices will soon be able to access 4G services using 700MHz in select Darwin and Perth CBD areas. Starting January 2015, as the 700MHz spectrum becomes nationally available for commercial use, Optus will expand its 4G network to around 200 holiday destinations and new regional locations. The spectrum will be also be used to improve the indoor 4G experience for customers in metro areas.

Optus and LG Electronics Australia have launched the LG F70 smartphone in the local market. The device features a 4.5-inch IPS display, 4G LTE connectivity, 1.2GHz Quad-Core processo, Android KitKat 4.4.2 operating system and 2,440mAh battery. The new phone costs AUD 264 with a AUD 35 Optus My Plan.
