Etihad Close To Deal With Alitalia

Etihad Airways P.J.S.C. boss James Hogan met with Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on April 10, 2014, as his company nears a deal to purchase a stake in Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A., Italian media reported. The Ansa news agency cited sources saying that a deal on could be in place "within hours".

Qatar Airways In Talks To Acquire Balkan Based Airline

Qatar Airways is planning to acquire Balkan based Airline. Balkan Business media reported quoting Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Baker as saying that Qatar Airways could look into purchasing a minority stake in an airline in the region. He added that the company is ‘actively discussing opportunities’ with other passenger carriers and ‘When we see that there are strong synergies between the two carriers we are open to investment.’ He also disclosed that Qatar Airways was offered Olympic Air, Air Seychelles Ltd. and Air Serbia. Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A. had indicated its availability ‘several times over the past five years.’ According to the news report, Alitalia is in the final stages of investment talks with Etihad Airways P.J.S.C. The official stated, ‘We were offered umpteen airlines that today have either been acquired or are in the process. Qatar Airways will not be rushed into taking investments in airlines in bits and pieces. Each airline in our region has a different strategy. We want to make sure that we don't create a burden on us. We want airlines that we acquire to be complimentary to us, we don't want to get involved in fixing other people's problems.”

Alitalia And Etihad Close To A Deal

A deal between Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A. and Etihad Airways P.J.S.C. appears closer as due diligence is almost complete, Alitalia said. "Due diligence is all but finished as of today," Chief Executive Officer Gabriele Del Torchio said. "The next step is to meet and enter the negotiating phase". In early February 2014, Etihad and Alitalia issued a joint statement saying they were in the "final phase" of negotiations for a deal that would see Etihad buy as much as a 40% stake in Alitalia.
