Sandia Corporation Key Developments

Sandia National Laboratories and Linde LLC Enter into Umbrella Cooperative Research and Development Agreement

Sandia National Laboratories and Linde LLC have signed an umbrella Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) that is expected to accelerate the development of low-carbon energy and industrial technologies, beginning with hydrogen and fuel cells. The CRADA will kick off with two new research and development projects to accelerate the expansion of hydrogen fueling stations to continue to support the market growth of fuel cell electric vehicles now proliferating among the major auto manufacturers. A new agreement between Sandia National Laboratories and Linde LLC will focus on performance-based design approaches to commercial hydrogen fueling stations and may lead to their proliferation. Kickoff projects will help increase H2 fuel station openings.

Sandia National Laboratories Announces Executive and Directorate Changes

Sandia National Laboratories has appointed Stephen Rottler as deputy director and executive vice president for National Security Programs effective March 6. Stephen Rottler, Sandia National Laboratories vice president of the California site and head of the Energy and Climate unit Stephen Rottler has been appointed the labs' deputy director and executive vice president for National Security Programs effective March 6. He succeeds Jerry McDowell, who will retire in July after 35 years at Sandia. McDowell has been executive vice president since 2010. Rottler is vice president of Sandia's California laboratory and head of the laboratories' Energy and Climate unit, a position he's held since February 2013. The company also announced the appointment of Gary Sanders as vice president of Weapons Engineering and Product Realization and chief engineer for nuclear weapons. Sanders succeeds Bruce Walker, who is retiring in March after 37 years at Sandia, the last three in the vice president's role. Sandia National Laboratories Deputy Director and Executive Vice President for National Security Programs Jerry McDowell will retire next summer after 35 years at the labs. McDowell has been instrumental in leading Sandia's nuclear weapons mission. At Sandia's California site, Rottler oversaw principal missions, including nuclear weapons stewardship; homeland security with a focus on defending against weapons of mass destruction; combustion, transportation and hydrogen energy research; biology; and advanced computational and information systems.

Sandia National Laboratories Appoints Rob Leland as Vice President of Science and Technology and Chief Technology Officer

Sandia National Laboratories has appointed Rob Leland as vice president of science and technology and chief technology officer. Sandia executives Duane Dimos and Julia Phillips, respectively, had served in those roles on an acting basis for the past 20 months. Leland joined Sandia in 1990.
