Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia Opens New Facility in Metro Columbus

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia cut the ribbon on a new customer care facility in metro Columbus. This 42,000 square foot facility will house 400 associates dedicated to serving the State Health Benefit Plan members consisting of state employees, retirees and their families. Beginning January 1, 2014, the company will be providing Third Party Administrative (TPA) services and Medical Management to the State Health Benefit Plan which covers approximately 650,000 Georgians, including the State Employees Plan, the Teachers Plan, the Public School Employees Plan and Medicare Advantage plans for retirees. The company associates on the Technology Parkway campus are part of a larger group of 750 new employees that were hired in 2013 to service the SHBP account. This includes positions in nursing, administration, claims, utilization and medical management. The company currently employs almost 4,000 employees across the state. The opening of this new facility is the result of cooperative efforts of many state and local offices including Governor Nathan Deal's office; the Georgia Department of Insurance, the Georgia Department of Community Health, the Georgia Department of Economic Development; the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce; the Development Authority of Columbus; and the Columbus Consolidated Government.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Inc. and Blue Cross and Blue Shield Healthcare Plan of Georgia, Inc. (collectively BCBSGa) is launching a new initiative designed to help Georgians improve their health by working with primary care physicians to better monitor and manage patient health. The Patient-Centered Primary Care Program (Program) encourages physicians to better manage their patients' health by rewarding them for more closely monitoring patients identified by risk indicators, and helping patients maintain a healthy lifestyle. The Program is moving physicians away from a patient-volume reimbursement model and toward a model of rewarding physicians based on patient outcomes. The Program also enhances information sharing and coordinates care management support between BCBSGa's utilization management staff and clinicians within the practice. The initial phase of the Program launched in four markets: Savannah, Rome, Columbus and Athens with more than 60,000 BCBSGa members in these areas. It is targeted to expand to other areas of the state throughout 2013 and 2014.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Inc. and Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Inc. at Southeastern Regional Medical Center have entered an agreement that brings new options and access to cancer patients at the newest CTCA hospital in Newnan, Ga. The new alliance allows BCBSGa members complete access to the state-of-the-art, all-digital CTCA regional hospital -- and its fully integrated care model -- as an in-network provider. The agreement also advances innovation and clinical collaboration with quality-of-care provisions created by BCBSGa and CTCA to enhance the quality of oncology care available to BCBSGa customers, improve their quality of life, and emphasize the transparency and accountability that support outcomes-based performance.
