Raley's Family of Fine Stores and United Food and Commercial Workers Reach Agreement

Raley's Family of Fine Stores and the United Food and Commercial Workers reached an agreement November 13, 2012 ending the nine-day old grocery strike. The Union will recommend ratification to its members with a vote to occur at a date to be decided in the near future. The agreement will also be shared with the union members working at Bel Air, a grocery store chain owned by Raley's, which was not part of the strike.

Raley's Family of Fine Stores and its Labor Union Announce Deal to End its Strike

Raley's Family of Fine Stores and its labor union announced that they have struck a deal to end its strike. The agreement means picket lines will be immediately taken down, pending a ratification vote. Bargaining resumed over the weekend. The United Food and Commercial Workers said it was able to preserve union-run health plan. The UFCW went on strike a week ago over the grocer's demands for wage and benefit concessions. In particular, the workers rebelled against Raley's proposals to restructure their health care plan and eliminate coverage for Medicare-eligible retirees.
