California HealthCare Foundation Announces Executive Changes

Sandra R. Hernández, MD, the former director of the San Francisco Department of Public Health, and a practicing physician, has been named president and CEO of the California HealthCare Foundation. Hernández will succeed founding President and CEO Mark D. Smith, MD, MBA, who announced earlier in 2013 that he was stepping down from the foundation he has led since 1996. Hernández will join CHCF on Jan. 2, 2014.

California HealthCare Foundation Appoints Daniel L. Grosss to its Foundation Board

California HealthCare Foundation announced that Daniel L. Gross, DNSc, RN, executive vice president of hospital operations for Sharp HealthCare, has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors at the Oakland-based philanthropy. Since 2006, Gross has had leadership responsibility for seven hospitals, and two senior community centers, all in the San Diego area. He leads the only freestanding women's hospital west of the Mississippi, the non-state-operated behavioral health facility in California, a Level II trauma center, an active multi-organ transplant program, and the robotic surgery program in San Diego County, among other responsibilities.

California HealthCare Foundation Appoints Suanne Buggy as Senior Communications Officer for Health Reform, Public Programs, and State Health Policy

California HealthCare Foundation announced the appointment of Suanne Buggy as senior communications officer for health reform, public programs, and state health policy. Ms. Buggy will serve as the communication lead for the Oakland-based foundation's Health Reform and Public Programs Initiative and State Health Policy office in Sacramento. Ms. Buggy will advance the foundation's work to support policymakers, health care stakeholders, state agencies and departments, and the public, through research and analysis, policy briefings, and stakeholder convenings.
