Aerojet Rocketdyne, a GenCorp announced the establishment of the company's Advanced Hydrocarbon Propulsion Development Office (AHPDO) in Huntsville, Alabama. The facility will focus on delivering a 21st century advanced hydrocarbon rocket engine to the nation and the integration of the company's ongoing hydrocarbon technology and development efforts. AHPDO will work toward bringing a new generation of globally competitive hydrocarbon rocket engines to the marketplace, by integrating the latest breakthroughs in 21st century materials, manufacturing and engineering with decades of Aerojet Rocketdyne's pioneering work in advanced hydrocarbon large liquid rocket engines. Modern engine cycles, new materials and additive manufacturing are some of the key focus areas. Low cost, yet high-performing and highly reliable engines are the expected product from this effort.

Aerojet Rocketdyne, Inc. Wins Defense Contract for Large Scale Additive Manufacturing

Aerojet Rocketdyne, Inc. awarded a contract by Wright-Patterson Air Force Base through the Defense Production Act Title III Office for large-scale additive manufacturing development and demonstration. The contract will secure multiple large selective laser melting machines to develop liquid rocket engine applications for national security space launch services. Aerojet Rocketdyne and its subcontractors will design and develop larger scale parts to be converted from conventional manufacturing to additive manufacturing (3D printing). Under the contract, the company will demonstrate three different alloys with these larger additive manufacturing machines to include nickel, copper and aluminum alloys. Parts ranging from simple, large ducts to complex heat exchangers are planned to be demonstrated in full scale. The program scope is expected to replace the need for castings, forgings, plating, machining, brazing and welding.

Aerojet Rocketdyne Completes CST-100 Work for Commercial Crew Integrated Capability Contract

Aerojet Rocketdyne completed its Commercial Crew Integrated Capability (CCiCap) commitment in support of Boeing's CST-100 spacecraft that will help open a new era of spaceflight and carry people to low-Earth orbit from American soil once again. A CST-100 partner and team member since 2010, Aerojet Rocketdyne's CCiCap work continued the development of the service module and launch abort propulsion system from prior commercial crew contracts with Boeing.
