Carlyle To Reportedly Sell PQ Corporation

The Carlyle Group LP (NasdaqGS:CG) has decided to sell PQ Corporation's industrial catalysts business separately from its performance chemicals and specialty glass materials, Reuters reported citing people familiar with the matter. The catalysts business has attracted interest from BASF SE (DB:BAS), Umicore S.A. (ENXTBR:UMI), Johnson Matthey plc (LSE:JMAT) and Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE:SEE) while CCMP Capital Advisors, LLC has expressed interest for performance chemicals and specialty glass materials businesses. The Carlyle Group LP, BASF SE and Umicore S.A. declined to comment. PQ Corporation, Sealed Air Corporation and Johnson Matthey plc did not respond to requests for comment.
Carlyle Reportedly Plans IPO Or Sale For PQ

The Carlyle Group LP (NasdaqGS:CG) intends to launch an initial public offering or a sale of PQ Corporation valuing it around $3 billion, including debt, people familiar with the matter said. Carlyle plans to talk to investment banks next week in order to select underwriters for the offering, the people said. They added that Carlyle will also explore an outright sale of PQ to another firm.

PQ Corporation named John M. Steitz to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective Oct. 1, 2013. Boyce said business growth and future opportunities support the need for a new senior leader who would share duties with Boyce in overseeing day-to-day business operations, safety efforts, and customer service in addition to leading other key business initiatives. As COO, the three business line Presidents, Erwin Goede (Performance Chemicals - Europe, South Africa, and Asia), Paul Ferrall (Performance Chemicals for the Americas and Australia), and John Lau (Catalysts Group), will all report directly to Steitz. Steitz has held wide-ranging corporate responsibilities during his career including his recent position as President and Chief Executive Officer for the global Specialty Chemicals Business of Avantor Materials, LLC.
