Orascom Telecom Algerie Gets 3G License in Algeria

Global Telecom Holding S.A.E. announced that its Algerian subsidiary Orascom Telecom Algerie (OTA) has been awarded one of the three provisional 3G licenses offered in Algeria. Final licenses with the relevant coverage obligations are expected to be granted after payment of fees, satisfaction of the conditions indicated in the tender documents and receipt of clearances and approvals from various governmental authorities. The 3G license will cost DZD 3 billion (approximately USD 40 million) and will be valid for 15 years, after which successive renewals will be in five year fixed terms. OTA received an exceptional approval from the Bank of Algeria allowing OTA to make foreign payments to acquire equipment exclusively dedicated to 3G technologies. This exception is a conditioned derogation to the current ban on foreign payments.

Djezzy announced earnings results for the second quarter and six months of 2013. Revenues increased 3% year on year to DZD 37 billionin the second quarter of 2013 in local currency against DZD 36 billion a year ago, driven by higher voice revenues following the changes made to the communication message of existing offers. Mobile data revenues increased 57% year on year. EBITDA grew 2% year on year in local currency to DZD 22 billion against the same a year ago, primarily as a result of the top line improvements.
For the six months, total operating revenues were DZD 71 billion and EBITDA was DZD 42 billion against total operating revenues of DZD 70 billion and EBITDA of DZD 42 billion a year ago.
Algeria Reportedly Still In Talks To Acquire Djezzy

A source with the knowledge of the discussions said that the talks of VimpelCom Ltd. (NYSE:VIP) to sell a controlling stake in Orascom Telecom Algérie S.P.A. (Djezzy) are at a delicate stage and have not failed. The source told Reuters that there may be further clarity on the issue in coming days. A government source told Reuters earlier in May 2013 that the Algerian government would seek a new valuation of Djezzy before acquiring the 51% stake. VimpelCom and Alegrian Finance Minister Karim Djoudi declined to comment to Reuters.
