Hydro-Quebec Reports Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended September 30, 2014

Hydro-Quebec reported earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2014. Net profit for the third quarter ended September 30, 2014 was CAD 351 million, compared to CAD 312 million for the same quarter ended September 30, 2013. Revenue for the third quarter ended September 30, 2014 was CAD 2.66 billion, compared to CAD 2.66 billion for the same quarter ended September 30, 2013. Net profit for the nine months ended September 30, 2014 was CAD 2.58 billion, compared to CAD 2.14 billion for the same period ended September 30, 2013. Revenue for the nine months ended September 30, 2014 was CAD 10.15 billion, compared to CAD 9.36 billion for the same period ended September 30, 2013.

Hydro-Quebec to Sell USD 442 Million of Debentures in Canada

Hydro-Quebec said it had agreed to launch a CAD-500-million (USD 442 million/EUR 354 million) placement of Series JN debentures on the Canadian market. The company said the debentures will mature on February 15, 2055, bearing a coupon of 4.00% that is payable semi-annually. It plans to offer the securities at a price of 108.041 plus interest. The yield is 3.619%.

Hydro-Québec and National Grid Sign Licensing Agreement for the Linescout Technology

Hydro-Québec and National Grid have signed an important licensing agreement for the LineScout, a robotic device able to inspect high-voltage transmission lines. Under the licensing agreement, National Grid obtains the right to use LineScout Technology on the UK territory for a period of ten years. The two companies are working together to broaden their collaborative approach to strategic research and development. In an effort to improve reliability, inspections and safety, Hydro-Québec's research institute (IREQ) developed LineScout Technology. The remote-controlled robot uses cameras to inspect line conditions and discover irregularities, while also employing a smart navigation system to pinpoint locations in need of attention. The LineScout is able to manoeuvre around obstacles such as splices, hardware components and aviation warning markers.
