HSBC Denies Rumors To Sell Brazil Operations To Itau Unibanco

HSBC Holdings plc denied rumors that Itau Unibanco Holding S.A. is looking to acquire a part of HSBC Bank Brasil S.A. - Banco Múltiplo operations. "The priority role of HSBC Bank Brasil in the global strategy of the HSBC Group was unequivocally confirmed by the UK bank's new global president Stuart Gulliver during his second official visit to Brazil two weeks ago," HSBC said in a statement. Banco Bradesco S.A. and Banco Santander, S.A. were also reported as buyers. However, AE Brazil Newswire reported that Bradesco denied the rumors and Santander declined to comment.
