CLYDESDALE Bank Names Paul Mayer as Head of Retail Branches for Scotland

CLYDESDALE Bank has lured an experienced manager from a rival to run its Scottish retail operations. Paul Mayer, originally from Glasgow, takes up the newly created post of head of retail branches for Scotland. Until now Mr. Mayer has spent his near 15 years in financial services with Abbey National and Santander. Most recently he was a senior regional manager for retail at Santander and has also had spells managing branch networks in London, the north east of England and Scotland.

Clydesdale Bank Announces Executive Changes

CLYDESDALE Bank has appointed non-executive director Jim Pettigrew as its new chairman, taking over from Cameron Clyne, who has retired from parent company National Australia Bank. Richard Gregory will retain the chairmanship of Clydesdale's sister, Yorkshire Bank. Mr. Pettigrew, who will also chair the board of National Australia Group Europe, has served on both boards as a non-executive director since September 2012. His fellow non-executive director David Allvey has taken on Mr. Pettigrew's previous role as chairman of the boards' audit committee. Andrew Thorburn replaced Mr. Clyne as group chief executive officer and managing director at the beginning of August.

Clydesdale Bank to Introduce Plastic Banknotes from 2015

Clydesdale Bank announced that the first plastic banknotes in Great Britain will be introduced in Scotland in 2015 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Forth Bridge. The bank will release 2 million £5 ($8.4) notes, smaller than the current ones and featuring the architectural structure, from March 2015. The fiver will also present the image of Sir William Arrol, one of Scotland's most celebrated engineers, whose company constructed the bridge 125 years ago. The company stated that polymer notes were more durable than the existing cotton paper currency, but also cleaner and more difficult to counterfeit.
