Nintendo to Cut Jobs in Germany

Nintendo is to slash at least 130 jobs in Germany as it closes its Bavarian headquarters and adapts its European arm to the 'rapidly changing business environment'. The company will run its German operations from its Frankfurt office, closing and selling off its site in Groostheim losing up to 200 jobs from across the two sites.

Royal Philips Files Suit Against Nintendo over Wii Remote

Royal Philips NV has filed a suit against Nintendo in a U.S. court, claiming the company infringed two of its patents in the control system of its popular 'Wii' video game consoles. Philips is seeking damages and a ban on sales and import of the Wii into the U.S. The patents Philips cites in its suit describe a 'virtual body control device' and a 'user interface based on a pointing device' - both key aspects of the Wii.

Nintendo Co. Ltd. Announces Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Fiscal Year Ending March 31, 2015

Nintendo Co. Ltd. announced earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. The company reported that net loss for the year ended March 31, 2014 was JPY 23.22 billion, or JPY 183.59 loss per share, compared to a net income of JPY 7.10 billion, or JPY 55.52 per share, for the year ended March 31, 2013. Net sales for the year ended March 31, 2014 were JPY 571.73 billion, compared to JPY 635.42 billion for the year ended March 31, 2013. Operating loss for the year ended March 31, 2014 was JPY 46.42 billion, compared to an operating loss of JPY 36.41 billion for the year ended March 31, 2013. Ordinary income for the year ended March 31, 2014 was JPY 6.09 billion, compared to JPY 10.48 billion for the year ended March 31, 2013. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2015, the company expects operating income to be of JPY 40 billion, ordinary income to be of JPY 35 billion, net income to be of JPY 20 billion, and net income per share to be of JPY 168.96. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2015, the company expects net sales to be of JPY 590 billion.
