Fitness First to Spend £20 Million

Fitness First has gone back into investment mode, as it attempts to draw a line under its annus horribilis of 2012. The company is to plough £20 million into its 85 centres this year, refurbishing the chain and investing in new equipment and staff who it hopes will help breathe new life into the business. The company has pledged to spend around £4.5 million on installing new technology, such as 'air showers' to help people cool down after their workout, or special hot studios for yoga. A further £1 million will be put towards hiring and training more than 70 club managers. The remainder will be spent on general refurbishments, starting with Fitness First branches in South Kensington, London Bridge and Poole.
