Government Updates On Privatization

The Department of Disinvestment of India is looking to divest 5% to 10% equity sale in Coal India Limited (CIL) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited which could alone raise close to INR 280 billion. The privatization of CIL is valued at around INR 210 billion while a stake sale in Indian Oil is likely to fetch the government close to INR 70 billion. "This year's disinvestment strategy is set to begin early and with achievable targets in hands we hope that we may be able to do much more than the INR 400 billion target set for 2013-14," said a senior government official. The other companies to be privatized which will together raise INR 400 billion are Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Engineers India Limited, NHPC Ltd. Besides disinvestment in smaller ones like Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited are also scheduled for next fiscal.

Union Cabinet Reportedly Approved Disinvestment of PSUs

Union Cabinet approved the disinvestment of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, an official in the Department of Disinvestment said. The disinvestment will happen in 2014.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Plans to Invest INR 190,000 Million

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited announced that it is planned to invest INR 190,000 million for the creation of infrastructure in tune with its Vision 2020 programme to create 12 new flying platforms. In effect, HAL aimed to emerge as a $10 billion defense major by 2020. The chairman also announced that the PSU is in discussion with the ministry of human resources development to create an aviation university based in Bangalore, which will be 'full-fledged in every way'. The HAL board had also approved the development of a basic turboprop trainer HTT40, which could also be used as a light attack aircraft. This approval has come despite the procurement of the Swedish basic trainer Pilatus.
