Channel One, LLC Key Developments

Channel One News Launches Searchable Video Library

Channel One News announced the launch of the Channel One News Video Library, a user-friendly, searchable database of nonfiction videos and interactive activities tied to current events. As educators increasingly look to customize their own lesson plans, the Channel One News Video Library is a comprehensive resource of Channel One News' video segments and activities created with one goal in mind: to help students interpret the news and spark important conversations around current events. The Channel One News Video Library includes: 2,200 Channel One News video segments, searchable by grade, subject area and keywords. 1,200 video transcripts. Interactive, standards-aligned content including slideshows, timelines, discussion questions, writing prompts and quizzes tied to specific video segments. To help educators seamlessly integrate current events into their daily lesson plans, each piece of content is searchable by subject, grade level and topics such as geography, college and career readiness, the environment, STEM, politics and health. Educators can also filter results by skills and strategies such as critical thinking, compare and contrast, problem solving and cause and effect. Later this fall, Channel One News will roll out themed content packages covering significant news events, like 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, climate change, the Constitution and the life and death of Nelson Mandela.

Channel One, LLC Launches 'Channel One News Everywhere' for Flipped Classrooms

Channel One, LLC announced the launch of the new ChannelOne.com, making it easier to access, share and interact with Channel One News' bite-sized, educational videos and supplemental resources from any device, at any time. Educators are increasingly adopting the flipped classroom approach and integrating educational videos into their daily lesson plans. Additionally, the introduction of mobile and tablet devices and the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) movement in schools means that video content is now traveling with the user, enabling an 'anywhere, anytime' experience. To meet these changing needs, Channel One News is expanding its digital distribution so educators, students and parents can easily access the daily news program, featured video segments on thousands of topics, including 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and Watergate, text-based transcripts, blog posts from reporters, discussion guide questions and Common Core State Standards (CCSS)-aligned supplemental resources outside of the classroom. Additionally, ChannelOne.com now offers a resource hub called 'Impact', that helps students who are interested in service-based initiatives connect to organizations that address the issues they're learning about through Channel One News' daily programming. This portion of the website will include civic-focused 'How To' articles, profiles on service-based organizations and an area for students to share their experiences and help one another connect to relevant causes.
