MUFG Union Bank will close 20 branches of the former Frontier Bank in Washington state. The company will close the offices in February and March. Union Bank is closing the branches as customers shift more transactions online and to mobile banking applications. All the branches to be closed are located in the Puget Sound area. Union Bank, the U.S. banking unit of Tokyo-based Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, will continue to operate 24 branches in Washington state after the closings. MUFG Union Bank NA announced that it plans to close 20 branches in Washington state from mid-February through mid-March. San Francisco-based MUFG Union Bank NA plans to close 20 branches in Washington state, bank spokesman Alan Gulick confirmed. The bank expects the closures to occur at various times from mid-February through mid-March. The branches are located in Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Poulsbo, Sequim, Bremerton, Gig Harbor, Silverdale, University Place, Kent, Milton, Puyallup, Sumner, Duvall, Everett, Lake Stevens, Snohomish, Arlington, Bellingham, Mount Vernon and Stanwood. Despite the closures, Gulick said that the bank will continue to grow in key local markets, and has plans to open offices in both Washington and Oregon over the next two to three years.
