Maplin Announces Executive Changes

Maplin has appointed Darren Shapland, the new Poundland chairman, as its non-executive chairman. He replaces John Lovering who is retiring. Shapland starts his role next month following the sale of Maplin by Montagu Private Equity to Rutland Partners for £85 million in June. Shapland was previously Carpetright chief executive and also held senior roles with Sainsbury's and Superdrug.
Maplin Electronics Confirms to Shut its Store in Derby City Centre

Maplin Electronics has confirmed that it is to shut its store in Derby city centre. The company will close its East Street store on June 28, 2013. But the firm said that it would be retaining its other Derby store at the Wyvern Retail Park. Maplin said that it had decided to shut the city centre store after coming to the end of its lease. The company has decided not to renew the lease on the city centre store and instead concentrate all its efforts on the Wyvern store. The company could not say how many people at its city centre store were being made redundant as a result of its closure.

JSJS Designs plc announced the commencement of a store rollout by Maplin Electronics Ltd. This rollout follows a successful internet sales trial by the retailer. To begin with the company's Lightwave product range will rollout to 20 Maplin stores with a stocking order of over £30,000 having been received and the potential to generate annual revenues of approximately £300,000. Following the initial rollout, if deemed successful by Maplins, the rollout could continue into another 195 Maplin stores.
