Etihad Reportedly Plans To Buy Alitalia
Dec 11 13
Etihad Airways P.J.S.C. is looking to buy Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A. Etihad will take a decision by Christmas whether to buy Alitalia or not, two sources familiar with the matter said. "Etihad has been in the data room as of some ten days and will complete the process by the end of this week," one source said. Etihad can only take a stake of up to 49% stake in Alitalia. A second source close to Etihad said, "An Etihad-led team is looking at numbers of Alitalia and this is not the first time it has done so." Source added, "Etihad's relationship with Alitalia is deeper than normal code sharing, it is a deep commercial partnership and Alitalia desperately needs a strong partner, Etihad has been a serious investor." It is not clear that Alitalia will give the synergies to Etihad as it gives to other airlines at the time of alliances. Etihad and Alitalia declined to comment to The West Australian.
