Spansion announced that it will close its manufacturing facility in Shah Alam, Selangor, as part of its plan to align costs with current market demand. A majority of the production activities will cease at the Shah Alam plant around the end of the first quarter 2012, at which time, the company would have transitioned most of its production to another Spansion facility. The Shah Alam plant currently employs about 660 people. Spansion will continue to maintain a presence in Malaysia via its facility in Penang. The company will proactively assist impacted employees in finding new jobs and offer them severance packages.
