Baptist Memorial Health Care Announces Executive Leadership Changes

Baptist Memorial Health Care has announced some significant leadership changes. Paul DePriest has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer, Rev. Keith Norman has been named Baptist's first vice president for government affairs and Dana Dye is the new head of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. DePriest is the first physician to be named chief operating officer at Baptist. He's been with Baptist since 2012 as senior vice president and chief medical officer. Norman is the pastor of First Baptist Church-Broad and the president of the NAACP's Memphis chapter. He sits on the board of directors of the Memphis-Shelby County Crime Commission, is a Board Trustee at Christian Brothers University and is a Tennessee Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance Commissioner. In his new role at Baptist, Norman will maintain relationships with government officials and strengthen Baptist's community outreach partnerships.

Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. announced that it is laying off 61 employees as part of the hospital system's ongoing restructuring plan. Baptist-Memphis Hospital bore the brunt of the layoffs, with 52 employees being cut. The affected employees will receive severance and will be able to apply for open positions throughout the Baptist system.

Baptist Memorial Health Care laid off 23 managers from its 14-hospital system. The cuts included four managers at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis from departments including pathology, cardiac rehabilitation and cardiac catheterization. The managers who were laid off can apply for other positions and will receive job-placement help from human resources.
