Bayer MaterialScience AG Key Developments

Bayer to Invest €15 million in Facility to Produce Polyurethane

Bayer MaterialScience is to invest €15 million in a new production line at its Dormagen site to manufacture a precursor for premium polyurethane foam with carbon dioxide as feedstock. The new facility will have a capacity of 5,000 tonnes/year. The objective of the Dream Production project is to launch the first CO2-based polyols on the market starting in 2016. Processors of polyols and polyurethanes have already expressed considerable interest. The company said using CO2 as a building block for polyols would enable it to use less petroleum-based feedstock, ensuring a more environmentally-friendly product.
