Petroleum Development Oman Unveils Plans for 16 EOR Projects
Mar 3 14
Petroleum Development Oman announced that it is executing 16 enhanced oil recovery (EOR) field developments and trials. The initiative follows its record production and safety figures in 2013. The company is currently engaged in chemical, thermal and miscible gas injection - techniques that are used to extract heavy or difficult oil - across its concession area and EOR will account for a third of its production by 2023. In 2013, PDO recorded average production of 1.25mn barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per day - for the sixth consecutive year it improved performance - and stepped up its drive for unconventional oil and gas. Addressing a media briefing at the Ministry of Oil and Gas, Raoul Restucci, managing director, PDO, said that in 2013 the company added 317mn barrels of oil reserves with total gas-developed reserves increasing by 1.3tn cubic feet.
Petroleum Development Oman to Complete Amal Solar EOR Pilot Project by Feb. '14
Nov 2 13
Petroleum Development Oman intends to complete the Amal pilot project by the end of January 2014. Middle East's first solar enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project at PDO's Amal West field in southern Oman, by PDO and GlassPoint Solar, was successfully commissioned in May 2013. The goal of PDO's solar EOR project is to reduce the amount of natural gas burned for thermal EOR, releasing gas for higher-value applications, including power generation, water desalination and industrial development in the country. The solar project will reduce natural-gas usage for an EOR project by up to 80%. By harnessing the Sun's energy with GlassPoint's enclosed-trough technology, the solar EOR project produces a daily average 50 tonnes of steam that feeds directly into existing thermal EOR operations at PDO's Amal West field. The 7MW system is in regular operation and recently passed its first performance acceptance test since coming online, exceeding contracted steam output by 10%. Speaking to reporters during a media visit to Marmul last week, Dr. Syham Bentouati, head of new technology implementation at PDO, said that the pilot project will be completed on January 31, 2014 and there will be no second phase of a pilot.
