Ottaway Newspapers Inc. has launched mobile-friendly editions of its daily news Web sites for its media groups across the country. The launch marks another milestone in Ottaway's ongoing mobile audience development effort, and is part of a larger content distribution approach geared toward pushing the company's local content and information to a wide variety of platforms. The sites were launched by the company's digital product development team, led by Richard Hoover, and were rooted in a pilot project undertaken by Greg Bryant, online editor for Ottaway's Cape Cod Media Group based in Hyannis, MA.
Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. said that the company will look at acquisition opportunities that present themselves. Thought the company admits that this is not the right time for acquisitions. Mr. Purcell of Ottaway Newspapers said that the difficult market situations would present acquisition opportunities.
Dow Jones & Co. Inc. announced that Patrick J. Purcell will replace Mr. Andrew Langhoff at Ottaway Newspapers Inc. and take on the role of executive chairman also beginning Jan. 5, 2009. Mr. Purcell, 61, acquired the Boston Herald from News Corp. in 1994. Prior to that acquisition, he held a variety of executive positions at News Corp., including chief executive officer of News America Publishing, publisher of the New York Post, president of News America/Newspapers and associate publisher of the Village Voice. Before joining News Corp., Mr. Purcell began his career at the New York Daily News as an office boy and he would eventually go on to hold various advertising positions at the paper.
