PopCap Games Inc has raised $22.5 million in late-stage funding. The company intends to use the funds for potential acquisitions in the social gaming space. The company stated that the new funding round represents a minority stake; a first for outside investors.

PopCap Games Inc. announced the upcoming launch of two major adaptations of Bookworm(TM) and two, first-ever video game platform adaptations of Bejeweled Twist(TM). These new iterations of two of the company's most successful franchises, mark PopCap's entry into the DSiWare(TM) market, and its continued support of Nintendo DS(TM) with all-new, feature-rich versions, fully optimized for the Nintendo systems. Bookworm will be available for the DSiWare service later September 2009, followed by Bejeweled Twist for DSiWare in mid-October. Bookworm for DS will launch at retail on December 1, 2009 and Bejeweled Twist for DS will be released at retail in the first quarter of 2010.

PopCap Games Inc. announced that Zuma's Revenge!(TM), the highly anticipated sequel to the original hit game that has sold 17 million copies worldwide, is now available for PC and Mac via Web download at PopCap.com, and for PC at North American retail outlets including Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Amazon.com and Target. Zuma's Revenge! carries a list price of $19.95 and effectively re-imagines the ball-blasting fun of the original Zuma(R) from the ground up with eye-popping high-res graphics, new game mechanics and modes, boss battles and more. In Zuma the player takes the role of a fearless ball-shooting frog, exploring ancient temples and ruins. By firing colored spheres into an advancing chain of balls to make matches of three or more, the frog blasts his way through a series of arcade challenges. The sequel brings the player to an all-new setting, the Polynesian paradise ruled by Zhaka Mu, and ups the ante with nearly triple the screen resolution of the original game, cool 3-D particle effects, and support for widescreen monitors. Further, Zuma's Revenge takes the relatively basic point-and-click input of the original Zuma up several notches, incorporating horizontal and vertical 'sliding' as well as the ability to hop from one lily pad to another to achieve greater flexibility and hit hard-to-reach areas of the screen. All-new tiki boss enemies provide a climactic ending to each major stage of the game and introduce various new forms of attack and defense that must be used to succeed in the game.
