Agri-Turf Supplies Inc. has filed a lawsuit against Thrivent Financial for Lutherans alleging the insurer improperly paid death benefit to the wrong person. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided insurance on the life of Robert Schnackenberg. Schnackenberg's business, Agri-Turf Supplies Inc., was listed as the beneficiary. The lawsuit claims that, over time, Schnackenberg increased his son's ownership interest in the business, making him the primary controlling party of the company. The lawsuit alleges that Schnackenberg subsequently changed the ownership of the policy from the company to himself without the company's authority. Schnackenberg later attempted to change the beneficiary of the policies to his wife. Schnackenberg's son claims that such a change was not effective because Schnackenberg no longer had the authority to make decisions on behalf of Agri-Turf. After Schnackenberg's death, Thrivent paid the death benefit to his widow. The lawsuit alleges breach of contract in failing to pay the proceeds to the correct beneficiary.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has named Terry Timm to senior vice president, shared services and administration, to lead organization's IT function as well as continue to serve as a member of company's strategic leadership team. Mr. Timm will also maintain his current responsibilities of managing all corporate administration and services functions. Mr. Timm has been with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and its predecessor, Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL), since 1981.
