The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer Inc. announced that it is eliminating 20 positions. It's the third time in less than a year the newspaper has cut its work force. Valerie Canepa said 13 of the 20 cut positions are already vacant. She says there will be seven layoffs. The cuts are part of restructuring by parent company, McClatchy Co., which announced earlier this month it is slashing its work force by 1,600, or 15%.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer Inc. is cutting its work force for the second time in three months as part of a larger corporate downsizing and restructuring. The company announced that nine positions are being eliminated at the city's major daily newspaper. That includes four full-time employees and another five open positions that will not be filled.

Heather Williams, who will be based in Columbus, will oversee marketing activities for both papers. She will travel frequently to Macon and serve on both executive teams. Williams joined the Ledger-Enquirer in 2005 and has developed innovative circulation and advertising promotions that have boosted single copy sales and supported revenue efforts.
