IKEA to Opens its Miami-Dade Store in Sweetwater, Florida

IKEA has announced that its Miami-Dade store will open in Sweetwater, Florida on August 27, 2014. It will be the Swedish company's second store in South Florida (Broward County's IKEA Sunrise opened in 2007), fourth in the state and 39th in the US. The 416,000 square-foot future IKEA Miami, with its nearly 1,500 parking spaces, is located on 14.6 acres adjacent to the Dolphin Mall, at the intersection of the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) and Florida's Turnpike, in the City of Sweetwater. The store will reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide, as well as significant sustainable building practices, including the installation of South Florida's large rooftop solar array, consistent with the company's 90% solar presence atop its US locations. IKEA Miami will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 44 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children's play area, and a 600-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a 'Children's IKEA' area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store, and preferred parking. In addition to more than 500 jobs created from construction, approximately 350 coworkers will have joined the IKEA family by when the new store opens. Diverse positions at this employer of choice include: home furnishings sales, interior design, customer service, safety and security, cashiers, maintenance, goods flow, receiving, warehouse and stock replenishment.
