The Nanjing Hexi District Selects tvsdesign to Expand Nanjing, China Expo Center

The Nanjing Hexi District has selected tvsdesign for the south expansion of the Nanjing International Expo Center (NIEC), located in Nanjing China. The winning design for the NIEC South expansion combines two key aspirations for the city of Nanjing: increase the exhibition space offered by tvsdesign's original NIEC campus design while serving as an important retail, entertainment and office complement of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games and the new Youth Olympic Center, located adjacent to the expansion site.

tvsdesign Partners Mall Plaza to Design and Build Santiago's Newest Retail Destination

tvsdesign has partnered Mall Plaza to design and build Santiago's newest retail destination: Mall Plaza Egana, a new construction mall which will open in 2013. Mall Plaza Egana is one of four retail projects tvsdesign is creating for developer and mall operator, Mall Plaza, that will set a new standard for progressive and sophisticated retail in Chile. In addition to Plaza Egana, tvsdesign is working with Mall Plaza on Mall Plaza Antofagasta, a high-fashion expansion wing that just opened and Mall Plaza Oeste and Mall Plaza Los Dominicos for a total development of more than 2.6 million sq feet of new retail space. At Mall Plaza Antofagasta, tvsdesign repurposed the lowest level of a parking garage into a high-end retail destination. Mall Plaza Oeste, currently in the design phase, includes a contemporary extension of an existing mall as well as an outdoor park and lake. Mall Plaza has also hired tvsdesign to design Mall Plaza Los Dominicos, a new ground-up mall that, when complete, will serve as the brand's flagship property. Mall Plaza Egana is surrounded by small scale, low-rise urban residential buildings and was designed to recapture the role of the community's "central marketplace." With careful placement of the various mixed use components, the surrounding community was not only retained, but enhanced. The large scale of the hypermarket space is situated below grade, so that the public streets are edged with pedestrian-friendly restaurants, cafes, and public entertainment. The design also places the retail concourse in direct connection with Santiago's underground metro transit system, creating a direct connection between the primary influx of visitors and the mixed use center. The Mall includes a collection of urban street shopping, three levels of fashion retail, a signature entertainment roof garden, numerous outdoor terraces and a medical office tower.

tvsdesign to Design Three New International Retail Centers

tvsdesign has been chosen to design three new international retail centers totaling more than 3,000,000 square feet of space: Galaxy's Mall as part of Tianjin's prestigious new Cultural Center District, The North Country Mall in Mohali Punjab, India; and Red Star Coastal Area Community Project in Dalian, China. The concept for the Tianjin's prestigious new Cultural Center District in Tianjin, China is to create a place for living -- a place where nature and culture, fashion and entertainment, social interaction and contemplation are in harmony. The core of this concept is the belief that the commercial complex should open out to embrace the cultural activities and the pedestrian flow of the grand promenade linking the Peoples Building and Tianjin's new Zhong Hua Opera House. Arranged along a gentle arc, a crystalline building of feature restaurants will create a focal point for the internal street and gardens. This faceted glass building will be the sculptural icon of the Commercial Complex, and a complementary building edge for the proposed new museum buildings across the lake. Together they serve to maintain the visual prominence and importance of the Opera House. The North Country Mall in Mohali Punjab, India is a 1,000,000 square-foot mixed-use retail prototype and the first of an aggressive rollout plan for India for US developer Gumberg. Based on the demands of the market in each location, the prototype will have the ability to combine hotel, service apartments and office towers with a multi-level shopping destination. The design of the prototype developed for the North Country Mall takes its inspiration from a resort experience infused with thoughtful design and quality. An immersive shopping environment is the goal of the mall. A harmonic flow of nature and structure combined with an atmosphere of warmth and comfort are crucial to the concept. Variety of materials, spaces and textures create a sense of discovery. In Dalian, China, tvsdesign is creating The Red Star Coastal Area Community Project, which will add approximately 550,000 square feet of retail and luxury residences to the community. Soaring sculpture and curving forms will combine to create a sculptural icon for this leisure and entertainment destination within the high end residential community of Dalian. Dramatic glass pavilions will be used to define a series of outdoor rooms. Providing shade by day and glowing lanterns by night, the pavilion structures will be easily recognized and appreciated as an icon both from a distance and by the visitor as focal points to the entertainment promenade. The roof will be used to create a "fifth facade" for the project. With winding paths, green gardens and dining terraces, the community will be invited to interact with the building. Sculpted landscaped forms will create a green oasis in the middle of the dense high-rise community that will be appreciated for its natural beauty when seen from above and for the dynamic garden experience it provides the visitor. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2012. In addition to the projects in Tianjin, Dalian and Punjab, tvsdesign will begin work in other areas of China, India, and Latin America and in the United States.
