RAD Data Communications Opens New R&D Center in Beer Sheva, Israel
Jun 5 14
RAD Data Communications Ltd. has inaugurated its RAD Negev subsidiary, which will serve as a R&D center for developing programmable network solutions. The center is situated in the new hi-tech park in the city of Beer Sheva, Israel. The initiative is being funded jointly by RAD and the Office of the Chief Scientist, an agency within the country's Ministry of Economics, which together are investing approximately $32 million in the project over the next three years. Thirty software engineers have already been hired to work in the new facility, and 20 more are expected to join them by the end of this year. RAD has set a goal of employing over 100 engineers within three years in this new facility.
RAD Inc. and Nakina Systems Inc. Announce Successful Deployment of Early Stage NFV
Jan 13 14
RAD and Nakina Systems have proven product interoperability for a major cable operator in one of the first real-world examples of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), with software controlling the actual hardware deployment. The two companies are working together to help service providers significantly reduce the costs, time and complexities associated with extending services to new customers. Their successful rollout at one of North America's cable telecommunications companies includes the 203A and 205A versions of RAD's ETX-2 Carrier Ethernet demarcation device working in conjunction with Nakina's NI-Director software to rapidly extend commercial services.
RAD Data Communications to Introduce Service Assured Networking Solution with Traffic Duplication at European Utility Week in Amsterdam
Oct 11 13
RAD Data Communications will introduce at European Utility Week in Amsterdam its Service Assured Networking solution with Traffic Duplication, a newly developed technology that transports mission-critical and other traffic simultaneously over two networks: SDH/SONET and carrier-grade Ethernet. In essence, this means that the added reliability comes at a modest CapEx investment, since the RAD solution utilizes available operational networks and facilities, making the improvement relatively cost-free. Traffic Duplication is one of many advanced capabilities incorporated into RAD's Service Assured Networking solution, which offers reliable, secure, scalable, managed, and performance-guaranteed operations for core operational networks, secure multiservice substation communications, Teleprotection communications, distribution automation and smart metering backhaul. These capabilities also include service provisioning, traffic management, timing synchronization, TDM, ongoing performance monitoring, fault management, and various resiliency mechanisms. A fringe benefit of employing Traffic Duplication is that it permits a controlled transition to a packet-based operational core. With this approach, the packet network can originally be used solely as a redundant mode of transport, while over time, and as confidence increases, it can become the primary operational network.
