Adam Opel AG Key Developments

Opel to Launch New Compact Car Next Year 2015

Opel announced that it plans to launch a new compact car next year 2015 in its ongoing drive back to profit. The new five-door model, Karl, will be launched next summer to complement the Corsa and Adam models. Karl will be a cheaper and more practical small car alternative to the three-door Adam. Karl is a short, snappy and catchy name that represents Opel brand values: German, emotional and approachable. At 3.68 metres (12 feet) long, it will be fractionally shorter than the Adam and priced below both the Adam and Corsa.

Opel Begins Production of Mokka in Spain

Opel announced that production of the Mokka is set to start at General Motors' (GM) Figueruelas plant in Spain on 28 August 2014. The start of production fulfils agreements reached between the company and its workers, and that it will allow a "certain degree of normality" to return to the plant. The company also revealed that while around 20,000 units will be manufactured in the remaining months of 2014, output will rise in 2015.

Opel Plans to Launch a Range of Entry-Level Cars

Opel is planning to produce a range of entry-level cars. The company is reported to be launching the vehicles to recapture the budget customer. The company has been considering if it should enter the value segment in Europe for some time, and management is now looking for ways to expand the Opel range following a multiyear restructuring. This step has been taken as part of a broader European revamp to turn over organisational responsibility for GM's brands in Europe to Opel Group GmbH.
