GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Limited engages in the manufacture and sale of polysilicon and wafer products for the solar industry in China and internationally. It operates in three segments: Solar Business, Power Business, and Overseas Solar Power Plants Business. The Solar Business segment manufactures and sells polysilicon and wafers, as well as is involved in providing solar system integration solutions. The Power Business segment engages in the development, construction, management, and operation of 24 power plants, including 14 coal-fired cogeneration plants and resource utilisation comprehensive cogeneration plants; 2 gas-fired cogeneration plants; 2 biomass cogeneration plants; 2 solid-waste incineration plants; 1 wind power plant; 2 solar farms; and 1 rooftop solar farm. This segment also sells coals in the People’s Republic of China. The Overseas Solar Power Plants Business segment develops, constructs, manages, operates, and sells overseas solar plants. The company also engages in the manufacture and sale of trichlorosilane and crucibles; trading of solar cells and modules; and provision of management services. GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Limited was incorporated in 2006 and is headquartered in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

The total steam sales volume for the first three months of 2013 was approximately 2,277,778 tonnes compared to 2,106,922 tonnes in 2012, representing an increase of approximately 8.1% compared with the same period of 2012.
