The company operates a rail-based transportation system in Hong Kong, comprising domestic and crossboundary services, a high-speed Airport Express, and a light rail system in Hong Kong. Its network consists of 218.2 kilometers of rail, as well as has 84 stations and 68 light rail stops. The company also provides intercity services to and from Mainland of China, as well as small bus services in Hong Kong. In addition, it rents station retail space in stations, as well as advertising space in trains and stations; and enables telecommunication services on the railway system in Hong Kong. Further, the company develops and sells residential properties in Hong Kong; holds and manages investment properties consisting of shopping malls and offices; operates cable cars, and the Octopus card payments system; and offers consulting and project management services. Additionally, it invests in urban rail networks and related property developments, including 50 kilometer Beijing Metro Line 4, 12.4 kilometer Beijing Metro Line 14, 20.5 kilometer Shenzhen Metro Longhua Line, and 48 kilometer Hangzhou Metro Line 1 in the Mainland China; and operates and manages the 124 kilometer London Overground system in the United Kingdom, the 390 kilometer Melbourne Train System in Australia, and the 110 kilometer Stockholm Metro in Sweden. The company also provides general building, maintenance, and engineering works; railway consultancy services; engineering and other consultancy services; property broking and administrative services; mobile and fixed telecommunication network and services; and travel and guided tour services, as well as underwrites insurance products. MTR Corporation Limited was founded in 1975 and is headquartered in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong.

MTR Corporation To Sell Tin Shui Wai Site

MTR Corporation Limited (SEHK:66) is planning to sell its Tin Shui Wai site. According to industry observers, MTR is expected to settle for lower prices in upcoming tenders for its sites and divide them into smaller plots to speed up sales as the government steps up pressure on it to release more land to ease the housing shortage. MTR Corp has failed to sell the Tin Shui Wai site in two previous tender attempts and is likely to have another go before the end of 2014.
