Tenaga Nasional Berhad is principally engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity in Malaysia. The company operates six thermal stations and three hydroelectric schemes, as well as manages and operates the National Grid, which is connected to Thailand’s transmission system in the north and Singapore’s transmission system in the south. It also transmits electricity from power generators to distributors and industrial customers through approximately 95.0 circuit-kilometers of transmission lines and 15.4 circuit-kilometers of underground cables. In addition, the company plans, designs, constructs, operates, and maintains the nation’s electricity supply system to provide electricity to all segments of customers. Further, it manufactures, sells, repairs, and distributes power and earthing transformers; high voltage switchgears and control gear; and power and general cables, and aluminum rods. Additionally, the company offers research and development services in the areas related to engineering, information technology, business, accountancy, liberal studies, and other services; repair and maintenance services to heavy industries and other related services; quality assurance, chemical, and scientific testing services; architectural, civil, and electrical engineering works and services; and consultancy, advisory, capability development, and corporate coordination program services. In addition, the company supplies fuel and coal for power generation; specializes in district cooling system and co-generation, including operation and maintenance works; provides higher education and training; and undertakes the build, operate, and transfer projects for the supply of chilled water. Tenaga Nasional Berhad was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Impianas Sdn Bhd has on 17 September 2014 filed a civil suit in the High Court of Malaya at Shah Alam against Tenaga Nasional Berhad. The sealed copy of the writ of summon has been served on TNB on 25 September 2014 to claim the following: the payment of a sum of MYR 11,391,357.08; Interest at the rate of 8% per annum calculated on daily basis on the sum of MYR 11,391,357.08 starting from 7th November 2008 until the date of full settlement; the sum of MYR 2.550 million; general damages to be assessed by this Honorable Court and paid forthwith by TNB to ISB; Exemplary damages to be assessed by this Honorable Court and paid immediately by TNB; Interest at the rate of 4% per annum on any judgment sum from the date of the writ of summons is filed until full settlement; costs; and such further and other relief as the Honorable Court deems fit.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Powertek Berhad Announce Memorandum of Understanding with Bangladesh Power Development Berhad

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) announced on the execution of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) dated 22 September 2014 held in between Consortium of TNB & Powertek Berhad (PB) with Bangladesh Power Development Berhad (BPDB) for the proposed development of a 1,320MW Coal-Fired Power Plant at Maheshkali, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The execution of this MOU is to outline the general understanding and framework for the exclusive cooperation between TNB-PB and BPDB to develop an Independent Power Project in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh and its main scope of cooperation is for the parties to form a Joint Working Team to conduct project’s feasibility study and subject to the feasibility study and other approvals, incorporate a joint venture company to develop the project on a Build-Operate-Own basis and to sign a long-term power purchase agreement with BPDB for the sale and purchase of power from the Project. The Commercial Operation Date of the Project is expected to be in 2019.

Malaysia, Bangladesh Sign MYR 6 Billion Power Plant Deal with Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Powertek Bhd

Malaysia and Bangladesh signed a government-to-government Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Powertek Bhd to implement a MYR 6 billion power plant project. The MoU paves the way for the TNB-Powertek consortium to finance and build a 1,320-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Maheshkhali, Cox Bazar, Bangladesh with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). The TNB-Powertek consortium and BPDB would have equal equity shareholding in the power plant, Malaysia Special Envoy for Infrastructure to India and South Asia, Datuk Seri Utama S. Samy Vellu, who signed behalf of the Malaysian government.
