The company was formerly known as INPEX Holdings Inc. and changed its name to INPEX Corporation in October 2008. INPEX Corporation was founded in 1966 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Prospects for additional gas discoveries in nearby blocks in the Arafura Sea are also favourable.
