Caltex Australia Limited, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the purchase, refining, distribution, and marketing of petroleum products, as well as operates convenience stores in Australia. The company owns and operates petroleum fuel refineries, including The Kurnell refinery and The Lytton refinery, which refines crude oil into petrol, diesel, jet fuel, and base oil for lubricants, as well as owns and operates a pipeline stretching approximately 200km from the Kurnell refinery in Sydney to the Wickham terminal in Newcastle. It produces specialty products, such as bitumen, liquid petroleum gas, waxes, fuel oil, and process oils. The company also owns and operates 12 seaboard storage terminals. It offers a range of fuel products, including unleaded petrol, premium unleaded petrol, bio fuel blends, aromatic blends, diesel, and jet fuel. In addition, Caltex supplies finished lubricants, including petrol engine oils and diesel engine oils to car and truck dealers and workshops, auto accessory shops, and retailers under the Havoline and Delo brand names. Further, the company supplies its products through a network of pipelines, terminals, depots, and the company owned and contracted transportation fleet. Additionally, the company provides online business centre services, including product ordering, accounts, sales and marketing information, and starcard management; and business solutions, such as fluid management, price risk management, fleet management, and environmental health and safety programs. Caltex Australia Limited markets its products to commercial and industrial customers in the mining, industrial, aviation, and transport sectors through retail, wholesale, and commercial distribution channels. The company was founded in 1900 and is headquartered in Sydney, Australia.

Caltex Australia Ltd. Reports Earnings Results for the First Half Year Ended June 30, 2009

Caltex Australia Ltd. reported earnings results for the first half year ended June 30, 2009. For the period, profit before interest and tax was $433 million on replacement cost basis compared to $302 million for the same period a year ago. Good operational performance across the whole business, as well as favourable externalities, contributed to an after tax profit of $298 million on a replacement cost of sales operating profit (RCOP) basis for the first half of 2009. This compares with $196 million for the first half of 2008, a 52% increase year on year. Basic earnings per share was 110.2 cents per share compared to 72.7 cents for the same period a year ago. Return on equity attributable to members of the parent entity after tax, annualised was 20% compared to 13% for the same period a year ago. As on date, net debt was $560 million against $645 million for the same period a year ago.
