The company’s ATMs and Financial Terminals segment offers self service technologies, such as automated teller machines (ATMs), cash dispensers, and software solutions, including the APTRA application suite to financial institutions, retailers, and independent deployers. This segment also provides consulting services related to ATM security, software, and bank branch optimization. Its Self-Service Kiosks segment supports various retail self-service functions, including self-checkout, wayfinding, bill payment, and gift registries to the retail and hospitality, travel and gaming, healthcare and public sector, and entertainment industries, as well as self check-in/out solutions to airlines and hotels/casinos. NCR’s Point of Sale segment offers retail-oriented technologies, such as point of sale (POS) terminals, bar-code scanners, software, and services. The company’s Check and Document Imaging segment provides solutions for paper-based and image-based check and item processing. These solutions enable check and item-based transactions to be digitally captured, processed, and retained. Its Services segment offers maintenance and support services, and other services, including site assessment and preparation, staging, installation and implementation, systems management, and complete managed services. NCR’s Consumables segment produces and markets various printer consumables for various print technologies. These products comprise paper rolls for receipts in ATMs and POS solutions, inkjet and laser printer supplies, thermal transfer and ink ribbons, labels, laser documents, business forms, and specialty media items, such as photo and presentation papers, and two-sided thermal paper. NCR operates in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, and rest of the Asia Pacific. The company was founded in 1884 and is headquartered in Duluth, Georgia.

NCR Corp. has announced plans to cut 5% to 10% of its 26,000-member workforce worldwide in the wake of weak third-quarter results.
NCR Corp. and Evolution Robotics Retail announced that ERR's LaneHawk, which enables grocers of all sizes to eliminate most losses from bottom-of-basket shrink, is now available with NCR Advanced Checkout Solution (ACS) software and with the NCR SelfServ Checkout solution. LaneHawk combines video with patented object recognition technology to detect and identify items left in the bottom of checkout baskets during checkout. Unnoticed by cashiers, such items cause losses averaging $3,500 per lane each year, according to data from ERR. LaneHawk alerts cashiers and automatically enters bottom-of-basket items into the shopper's order, reducing shrink. Since items do not need to be removed from the basket for scanning, checkout speed and shopper service are enhanced while doing away with cashier injuries from lifting heavy items from the bottom of the basket.
NCR Corp. and MOD Systems announced the introduction of a digital kiosk download pilot that transforms the movie rental experience. The companies said the movie rental process will now be a three-step process: choosing from more than a thousand movies and TV shows stored in a kiosk, downloading the title to a secure digital (SD) memory card, and playing the movie on a home television. The pilots, being conducted in select Blockbuster locations and other retail stores, are the first step in an ambitious initiative to leverage breakthrough portable digital storage technology. The initial technical pilot will facilitate playback on a TV via a digital media player provided to trial participants, and future iterations will allow consumers to move digital content via the SD memory card to a number of portable electronic devices, such as laptops and mobile phones.
